More Than 8,000 Father's United by One Mission
The Maine Girl Dads are a grassroots coalition of more than 8,000 fathers (and
growing) in Maine united by a straightforward paternal mission: protecting their
daughters’ dignity, privacy, safety, opportunities, and fair competition in schools.
Founded by dads like Leyland Streiff, the group formed in response to policies allowing
males into female-designated sports, bathrooms, locker rooms and other private
spaces. They emphasize that their stance is “purely paternal, not remotely political,” and
grounded in common sense and biological reality. It aligns with federal Title IX
protections while countering what they see as institutional failures by the Maine
Principals’ Association and state legislature.
What the Maine Girl Dads Have Already Accomplished
The dads have already secured policy changes in several school districts (such as
MSAD 52, RSU 73, and RSU 70) through local advocacy. Their bigger push is the
“Protect Girls Sports in Maine” citizen ballot referendum, which qualified for the
November 2026 ballot after collecting over 82,000 signatures — far exceeding
requirements. The measure seeks to designate school sports and private facilities by
sex statewide, ensuring female-only categories for fairness and safety while allowing
everyone to participate in sports.
They highlight real harms: girls facing discomfort, lost opportunities, and privacy
violations in shared spaces, backed by student testimony. A recent Wall Street Journal
op-ed by William McGurn spotlighted these ordinary fathers stepping up where others
have not.
Help Us Put More Girl Dad Tees on Their Backs
We at XX-XY Athletics decided to provide tangible, visible support for these amazing
dads. We recently did a t-shirt drive, giving regular folks the opportunity to gift the Maine
Girl Dads our Girl Dad tee. And that they did, in droves.
After just 3 days, over 300 tees have been gifted. We can’t wait to see the photos!
The Maine Girl Dads represent a growing movement of fathers refusing to sit on the
sidelines. They are pushing back against ideology in favor of protecting the next
generation of girls. More dads like this, please.
You can gift a girl dad tee here. Or many. There are 8000 of them! They need more!
